While Petersen's overall philosophy of practicality and durability influenced all U.S. models, the CB-1 was largely the result of collaboration and compromise, and less of a singular "Petersen design" than the iconic XO or RB models.
The higher-end, "cult" bikes with Petersen's full design philosophy, like the XO-1 and RB-1, were typically made in Japan. The CB series was generally a Taiwanese-made line, intended to be a more mainstream and affordable city bike.
Grant Petersen was the U.S. marketing director and product manager who made strong recommendations on designs, geometries, and components for Bridgestone's U.S. lineup. The CB series (City Bike) was one of the lines he helped introduce to the U.S. market, aiming to provide a practical commuting option for non enthusiasts. However, the specific designs of the lower-end CB models, like the CB-1, were sometimes a point of contention between the U.S. office and the parent company in Japan.
That said these bikes the CITY LIMITS are really great bikes, stable built of plaingauge non buttet crmo steel tubing and certainly with enough of G.P. flair in them still.
