Enjoy your 5 years! Travel Europe as much as you can, it's something many Americans dream of but never get to do. France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria.... not only lot of history and culture but awesome trails.
Hook up with locals or through this forum. You will mostly be fine with English as English is tought in Germany in school so many speak it pretty well actually.
