This rare shifter from the 1970's into the early 1980's was first prominent on muscle bikes like the Schwinn Stingray Fastback and then klunker mountain bikes based off the pre-war Schwinn Excelsior cantilever frame. When the MTB revolution came, the Mighty was THE shifter of choice (more so, the only suitable shifter available until the 1983 Suntour Power and XT Deerhead). Countless legendary mountain bikes sported the Mighty, including the 1982 Specialized Stumpjumper, Lawwill Pro Cruiser, Ritchey Palo Alto / Everest, Joe Breeze's Breezer series 1 & 2, Fat Chance, Mountain Goat / Escape Goat, 1982 Salsa "Scoboni" #1-6, and so many more. Long story short, if you're restoring early mountain bikes you probably need this shifter!
The Mighty is a unique model featuring an "endless band" type clamp and a pretty plastic cover covering all the shifty bits. They are unique with their clamp band that they can fit mountain bike 22.2mm bars as well as road/swept back/moustache 23.8mm ends.
downside? Rear shifter only so reverse action for left side if applied to reach a normal front derailleur - not so with the Hammerschmidt.....
