should you use a nickel plated p series salsa ? ..it would make sense when shortening the newly aquired white custom-brazed/straight-taper fork or when going back the original chromed stock...
well here is what the man himself wrote on the mtbr board a while ago about his stem production timeline:
Howdy All, Ross here....Sky, thanks for sending me the link to your post. The bike looks *****in'!!. Great job getting it back togerther with period correct stuff, I know that's getting harder to do. We started doing production stems in 1984 (same time we started doing the Ala Carte production frames. I had been doing custom stems for the frames I built as early as 1978 (I was building under the Red Bush banner then). I started including a custom stem as part of the custom frame package around early '83.
Once again it warms my heart to know that there's actually people out there outside my geezer peer group that remember some of this old stuff let alone appreciate and enjoy playing with it. Helps me a lot in my efforts to convince myself that I did something worthwhile. Thanks to you all!
Happy New Year! Ross Shafer aka Scoboni
ps the other brazed stem was thought to be an early red bush label R.Schafer stem also, but turned out its made most likely by Steve Potts
