CC never mounted/positioned one of his powerful brakes on the seatstays
(at least he never did on any of his 26 or 29" MTBs, he did though on a, early trial and late E-series race bike)

The choice of tubing was made accordingly knowing that he wanted every bit of performance without making other sacrifices such as looks or serviceability

Steve Potts on the other hand often times did the compromising and listened more often to custom(er) wishes - so he adopted the use of this powerful brake to the seatstays despite a small performance minimisation... yet a brake brace would be mendatory for sure!
