15" Comp Lite Frame made by St. Cloud based AMERICAN, company founder Fred Schiplin

A very first Comp Lite frame by American came as early as 1986, however with this one beeing a late model in british racing green military ano (that is to say higher temp. for deeper pigmentation).

All of American’s bikes featured aluminum tubing (in smaller diameters than what Klein or Cannondale used) with slightly thicker walls for durability. Durability was a big plus point, in fact and old ad would point out how scratches could be buffed out while paint could be repeatedly applied and stripped over the years, a fresh look for your bike whenever you felt like making the effort was possible by rebuffing with or without polishing or re-anodisation offered by the company back in the days.
As read at on www.ClassicCycleUs.com

THE Build is classic, but not all "period" correct..
..Well, just as some parts are even older than the frame: stem, rims, saddle and fork.

Cockpit:
140mm American Stem with some little but helpful rise as tailored basis for the frameset.
58cm medium sweep, red painted alu handlebar, not neon but vivid taperlite style..

Fork:
"Custom" to this frame: An early custom P2 as on some Brodie climbmax models and the 92´ late TRACKER MAMMOTH likewise had, .. a sweet fork! Similar to common Kona P2 Design, yet un-drilled with higher arch and of course in 39cm pre suspension corrected.. most probably dual or triple butted.

WHY this fork ? it resembles the original DKG/D.G build Cove-shop TRAILMASTER fork, which is a first attempt to overcome the sturdiness of the prevalent Cook Bros fork at the time and thus gives this last iteration ABM Complite some oldschool vibe,.. as 80s Americans many a time came with the typically long radius curved Dura-Trac (although there was a sometimes more sought after straight version of forklegs available, usually preferred by custom builders). Also the dropouts of this somewhat unique specimen as an original Joe Murray design recreated the esthetic of the original Trailmaster forks, infact J.M. was already hooked to MTB racing titles and around the scene of CA when the first Trailmaster and handful of other all terrain specific MTB`s first hit them fireroad repack races
