Zunächst war das Cannondale-Duo noch in einer größeren Verfolgergruppe unterwegs, konnte sich dann aber lösen. Wenige Kilometer vor dem Ziel wurden sie aber wieder vom Team Trek Selle San Marco gestellt und auf den vierten Tagesrang verwiesen
