Some thoughts and info on the Bike,
What made this Team Bike worthy of being called prototype GTB ! Geolution Geometry Trail Bike ?,
Well Daniel and Frank were experimenting that time with light tubesets for an all capable Argon-Hardtail frame which started out to be radically different from the previous Argon FR Geometry. Slacker Head angle & a bottom bracket to reach as low as possible. Even for standards set by Nicolai up until 2022 the Geometry you find here is somewhat inbetween the Argon AM/G-AM. The Argon FR became the G-TB by speaking head angle only basically..
Daniel Jahn´s #T99-DJ Tailor Frame, repainted in candy blue semipermeable glaze (before it was the same paint style in yellow/green originally).
Extra low BB, slack 65° HA, and super short 400mm Chainstays..... in 26"
A 610mm Toptube with 72° Seatangle! and sag results circa @SA 73°/ HA 66°
Similar but not identical to Franks 2012 Argon Hardtail. According to N., Daniel and Frank were tinkering since 2011 (with the idea of a modern enduro hardtail), yet this Bike was build later in 2013 with newer features such as discmount and dropouts which later became standard in the 2015 Argon Series..
In between the paintjobs i did ride the bike in raw unpainted for a good year and loved it that way also. Well what to say a Rad one even by todays means! really happy you got the bike and tweaked it this way.
Meeting Daniel at the N Hausmesse in 2024 revealed some further info:
I loved the bike and i only gave it away for the change in wheelsize after some good years of friendship with that lovely frame. I tacked it myself and Sacha (our master welder) finished it, he always did my personal ones. It was really the first ever Nicolai frame to sport internal dropper cable routing and the dropouts were inserted in some custom way really.
For a stem i had 30mm and the original drivetrain i see here is how i had put it together - cool thats nice to see!. However according to your question we may retrofit you a Hammerschmidt by finetuning the ISCG mount !
Infact Franks frame wasn´t changed for more travel in geo but he chose to run an 180mm fork anyways ending up with a slightly slacker HA, but he did choose longer chainstays than threre are on mine.
Apart from that these two test rigs were the same at this early stage of our hardcore prototyping for the new Argon line.
Frank Schneider sagt zum Argon AM:

Auch Gino Schlifke weiss was er am Argon AM so mag: “Da ich mit Hardtails aufgewachsen bin war es nur eine Frage der Zeit bis ich wieder Eines zum Enduro fahren besitzen würde. Es handelt sich um ein waschechtes Enduro wie mein Fully, nur dass es hinten keine Federung hat. Das Argon AM ist super laufruhig und bergab bin ich häufig nicht viel langsamer als auf dem Fully. Es ist verspielt, pflegeleicht und zaubert mir selbst auf den einfachsten Trails ein maximales Grinsen ins Gesicht! Da ich mit dem Argon wirklich alles fahre, werde ich 2014 auch damit beim Megavalanche an den Start gehen!”

Trends sind uns egal! Es zählen Rundenzeiten und physikalische Fakten. Wir bei NICOLAI denken gerne quer und hinterfragen den Stand der Technik. Die Bikes, die wir bis heute gebaut haben sind in Bezug auf Lenkdynamik und Fahrwerksperformance immer noch Klassenbeste. Unsere Kunden erwarten jedoch von uns, dass wir weiter denken.
Das tun wir und finden Dinge, die wir selbst anfangs nicht glauben konnten. Über zwei Jahre testeten wir mit Mojo Suspension UK neue kompromisslose Geometrien, die Anfänger und Profis gleichermaßen schneller machen sollten. Die Antworten lagen förmlich auf den Trails und zwar satt. Die Bikes müssen satt auf der Piste liegen! Die revolutionäre GEOMETRON Geometrie war kaum geboren, da stürmt sie schon beim DH Weltcup in die Top 20 Ränge vor. Die Revolution ist nicht mehr aufzuhalten, weitere NICOLAI Modelle verschiedener Federwegskategorien und Laufradgrößen sind in Produktion. Ob Trail, Enduro oder Downhill, jeder hat das Recht bedingungslos Singletrails zu bügeln. Nehmt euch Zeit für die Lektüre dieses geometrischen Manifestes.
